Instructions
You will submit a Word document with three numbered parts.
Part 1: Pre-Test. How is your memory?
Let’s try an experiment.
Open a Word document, and, without looking them up, see how many of the four design principles you can list from memory. You will not be graded on how many you remember, so just write as many as you remember.
Part 2: Understanding the Design Principles
Refer to The Non-Designer’s Design Book for help.
In the same Word document, make another list of the same principles with the aid of the Non-Designer’s Design Book. Then add a paragraph (three or more meaningful sentences, 4 paragraphs total) to explain each design principle in your own words. This is to demonstrate your understanding of each principle. Please remember that good writing skills are important now and throughout your career. Be sure to use proper grammar, punctuation, and meaningful content.
Part 3: Design Principle Exercise
Complete the following exercise:
Choose a single shape and create a design utilizing all four design principles. You may draw it, cut and glue colored paper, use clay, blocks, legos, whatever you want to do to construct it (see the examples at the top of this page). Take a photo of your final project that is sized to 1024 pixels on the long side. You may use a camera phone, but be sure you have good lighting, such as near a window, etc. Insert the photo into your blog, along with at least six sentences to explain your concept and creation process. Tell us how you used the design principles to create the final piece.
Submission
Attach your Word document with parts 1 and 2. Also add a working hyperlink to your Design Principle Exercise blog post. Find more details in Course > Blog Post & Submission Process.
