Before you start with the software, you need to formulate a plan. Consider the message you want to communicate, then do some research about the company, purpose, history, and the all-important audience. Think about colors, styles, and elements that will be most effective with the audience, then start sketching. Click the example to the right download and see large.

Tools: Paper and pencil, or colored pens.
Instructions
1. SKETCHES: Fold a blank, unlined sheet of 8.5×11 paper in half lengthwise, then in the other direction. Use a pencil and sketch four possible layouts, one in each quadrant of your folded paper. Focus on the principles of design and typography as you sketch ideas for 5A Event Flier project. Include the following elements in your sketches:
• Title
• Image
• Textbox(es)
• Logo
• Website
• D-T-P (date, time, place)
• White space
• Color notes to identify colors (see example above)
2. SUBMISSION: Take a photo of your page of sketches with your camera, phone, or scanner and submit the image in I-Learn. Go to 4C Submission and upload your file. Once you have attached the file, click on it to make sure the file opens correctly before you submit it. Hit “Submit”. Your file should be listed under “Submissions” and you also should receive an email receipt confirming you submitted the assignment.
3. FEEDBACK: Your instructor will leave feedback with your grade. If you can’t find your feedback or your grade, check with your instructor.
